Education Funding and the Blame Game

This post authored by Kelly, from zipcode 10314

I understand that with the current economic crisis, everyone and every department will feel the pinch. Yet, when it comes to the debilitating cuts to education, I feel like all I hear are politicians saying, "Don't blame me, it's the other guy's fault." Rather than finding real solutions or laying out a real plan on how to "do more with less" they are more concerned with finding someone else to blame. We must have a strong public advocate who will breakup these petty school-yard fights and keep our government honest and on task. When it comes to fighting for our families, I truly believe that Mark Green is our strongest advocate and ally.

To a college student like me, it is extremely refreshing to hear Mark Green discussing issues of New York education at the FOREFRONT!!

I am thrilled that Mr. Green has announced his candidacy for NY Public Advocate, because there are very few men in public service who have devoted the kind of intellectual curiosity and eagerness that Mr. Green has devoted to his field.

This man who has written scores of intelligent and inventively creative books, is exactly the kind of person who will begin to restore value to our schools, and to the way that we all view our own education. Improving the quality of our high schools, colleges, and beyond is the most reliable ticket out of poverty, recession, and desperation for so many young New Yorkers and even older ones. I think Mr. Green has a keen understanding of this truth.

He is the kind of man who, even after years of experience in the role of Public Advocate, is continually learning and expanding his horizons, as he's shown in recent years as President of Air America. I'm excited!!

Marc
