Captains Endowment Association, Lieutenants Benevolent Association, Detectives’ Endowment Association, endorse Green as the “public safety advocate”
New York – At a press conference at City Hall today, Captains Endowment Association, Lieutenants Benevolent Association, and the Detectives’ Endowment Association -- representing over 23,000 members -- endorsed Mark Green in the Public Advocate run-off citing Green’s strong record on public health and safety and consumer advocacy. All three previously endorsed Council Member Eric Gioia in the Primary, and follows the endorsement by two emergency medical services unions, received earlier this month Local 2507: Uniformed EMTs, Paramedics, and Fire Inspectors FDNY and Local 3621: Uniformed EMS Officers Union.
Captains Endowment Association President Roy Richter said: "There was a traumatic and tragic event eight years ago this week that deeply affected our City, our police officers and Mark Green. He was running in a mayoral primary September 11 and our members recall his courage and grace that day and the difficult days that followed. He showed a real knowledge of what the City was going through and a real empathy about what our members were going through.”
“Like so many New Yorkers, Mark's a fighter and a survivor who doesn't quit when the chips are down. So we're endorsing him now because of his years of proven accomplishment and potential to do even more,” explained Tom Sullivan, President of the Lieutenants Benevolent Association. “He has the unquestioned experience and ethics to be a leader in the City.”
“Mark has always been an advocate for police officers, helping to improve police-community relations and proposing to crackdown on illegal guns in response to increasing numbers of disabled cops shot in the line of duty,” continued Sullivan.
Michael Palladino, President of the Detectives’ Endowment Association, said, “each day we see a growing number of cases relating to frauds on people like you and me who loose anything from a couple of dollars to much more. As consumer advocate, Mark has always been there to help fight everything from successfully stopping home improvement scams to working with us to get the mob out of the commercial carting industry.”
“I am honored to have police officers’ support,” said former Public Advocate Mark Green. “As life long New Yorker, I know how important our police are to keeping our City safe from crime and in this post -- September 11th world -- terrorism. I look forward to working with our police officers as the next Public Advocate to provide the services and support they need to keep our City safe. Today’s endorsement like others is not based on the battles I merely ‘fought’ but what I got done, like getting organized crime out of the commercial carting industry and improved police-community relations. In my view, actions speak louder than words.”
“Because he's a lifelong advocate who protects our officers and public safety, we want him back as a Public Advocate fighting for us and being a check and balance to whoever's mayor,” concluded Richter, Sullivan, and Palladino.
