Ways & Means Chairman and Manhattan Assemblyman chooses "a proven advocate with the best record & ideas"

Denny Farrell, a ranking member of the State Assembly and its Ways & Means Chairman, today endorsed Mark Green for Public Advocate citing his "history of successful advocacy."

"I've worked closely with Mark over the years and know first-hand his ability to both expose problems and then find solutions. Whether it was racial profiling under Giuliani or banks staying out of communities of color or tobacco companies targeting our kids with cartoon ads or his series of exposes called 'The Poor Pay More,' again and again Mark showed how to get things done in government.”

"The reason so many people believe he's a leading candidate is because they know and admire his record of results. No one has to guess how activist and energetic he'll be as our third Public Advocate because we know how he was as our first.” "In a field of talented candidates, his history of successful advocacy especially qualifies him to be our next Public Advocate. And just when our City is in such economic trouble, we really need someone whose oversight of essential city services can make sure that they are fairly and effectively distributed to those who rely on them."

Green, who served as the Public Advocate from 1994-2001, said, "I'm honored and gratified by the Assemblymember's strong support and the basis for it -- that my record of results is a good predictor that I'd again help average New Yorkers get the best city services. I look forward to working with Denny to win this contest and then to serve our City."
